“Raga Darbari Kanada (also spelled and pronounced as Kanra) is considered by many as the most important raga in the North Indian classical music repertory. When I first heard it in New York City in 1967, it became an important milestone in my musical journey. The spiritual effect of this raga, when it is correctly executed and performed by a conscious musician, is powerful indeed, as witnessed by the recordings below.”

Raga Darbari Kanada, by George Ruckert
George Ruckert, who is now retired as a Senior Lecturer, Emeritus at MIT, taught me Raga Darbari Kanada on December 1, 1991 in the front room of his Marin County home. Below you will find his wisdom as published in his book on this wonderful raga. George is a friend who was also a fellow student of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan back in the fall of 1966. (Don Robertson)
