Nashville, Tennessee is home to a wide variety of American popular/folk genres, both as home to the artists as well as the central recording enterprise that is supported by studios and home studios spread throughout the city. The music community in Nashville is open, flexible, and supportive. Nashville received the name "Music City" many years ago because of the presence of the famous Fisk Jubilee Singers. It is also the home base for the Americana, Christian, and Country genres. As so much of the music produced in other U.S. music centers became more and more bizarre, Nashville became the focus for America's popular music, as confirmed by the worldwide success of Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum.
